Candidate Training - Part 2 of 3
About this event
Without honest, competent people to take office, the world will never change. This is one of 3 training sessions planned for Sundays, 2nd, 9th, and 23rd of November for anyone seriously considering standing in the 2026 local elections. The full schedule is shown below.
Session 1 - What it is to be a Councillor – 2 November.
• A shop steward for the community in the council, not a cheerleader for the council in the community.
• Understanding Local Government. How the council works.
• Time commitment and skills needed.
Session 2 – Elections and winning – 9 November.
• How Majority selects candidates.
• How elections work.
• How to run an effective campaign.
Session 3 – Leadership and representative democracy – 23 November.
• Horses for courses – different styles of leadership.
• Decision making, team building, and dealing with competing demands.
Each session will have teaching components, where you’re given information and can ask questions, and practical components where we look at real world examples.
