Should content creators get a share of the money

Another inspirational suggestion offered during the meeting proposed to incentivise tech giants like Google, for example, to offer advertising-related “kickbacks”.

This is a very interesting variation on a similar idea, which progressive economists have previously ventured, as a kind of public equity trust, or in effect, a wealth fund for society, where corporate dividends be distributed to every member of society equally, and not just to principal shareholders. If we’re all trapped in the necessary neoliberal evil of big tech and big data (most of us use digital media), then surely we’re entitled to some share of the monopolised profits? After, all, it’s us, the public user-class, that write their voluminous content!

Could corporate entities be incentivised to gain advertising-clicks in exchange for dividend payments to respective users?

This could promote the development of a more equitable stakeholder economy.

That said though, as progressives, should we even be entertaining the idea of liaising with these leviathans?

Or can the big-tech beasts still be tamed by more orthodox democratic means? Perhaps the introduction of corporate tax levy for tech companies? Previously tabled by Labour, but sadly since abandoned ...
